Most trade jobs start with a search on a phone: "emergency plumber Leicester", "electrician near me", "boiler service Oadby". The businesses that show up first, on the map and in the results below it, get the calls. Here's what puts them there.
1. A page for every service
One page that lists everything you do won't rank for everything you do. Give each main service its own page: boiler installation, boiler repair, bathroom fitting, underfloor heating, rewires, EV chargers. Each page should say what's included, where you cover, how quickly you can attend and what customers say.
2. A complete Google Business Profile
Your profile powers the map results. Choose the right primary category, list every service, add real photos of your vans, team and finished jobs, and post regularly. If customers don't visit you, hide your address and set your service areas instead.
3. Reviews, every job
Ask every happy customer when the job is done, while they're pleased. A QR code on your invoice or a text with a direct link makes it easy. Reply to every review, good or bad. Never pay for reviews.
4. A site that works on a phone
- Loads fast on 4G
- Phone number and quote button on every page
- Big, thumb-friendly buttons
- Gas Safe, NICEIC or other accreditations visible
5. Areas you genuinely cover
List the towns and villages you work in, and where you've done real jobs, write about them. Avoid copy-and-paste pages for every town: search engines treat them as low quality.
6. Consistent details everywhere
Your business name, phone and website should match on your site, Google, Facebook, Checkatrade, Yell and anywhere else you're listed. It helps Google and AI tools trust that it's all the same business.
7. Branding that travels
A clean van wrap, matching workwear and a professional quote template make a small firm look established, which helps people choose you when they compare.
